The AFCEA Educational Foundation, in partnership with the AFCEA NOVA Chapter, provides merit-based scholarships to support the academic advancement of active-duty U.S. military personnel and eligible U.S. veterans pursuing undergraduate STEM degrees.

Eligibility:

• U.S. citizen.
• Active-duty member of the U.S. uniformed services, or an honorably discharged U.S. veteran (including Reservists and National Guard personnel) who deployed abroad in support of an Overseas Contingency Operation (Operation Enduring Freedom, Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation New Dawn, Operation Inherent Resolve, or Operation Freedom’s Sentinel).
• Currently enrolled part time or full time as a sophomore or junior in an undergraduate STEM degree program at an accredited four-year U.S. college or university (including eligible online programs).
• Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.
• Pursuing a C4I-related STEM major aligned with AFCEA’s mission.
• Must have served in an Overseas Contingency Operation (2003–present).

Award: $1,000–$5,000

The Airmen Memorial Foundation Scholarship Program provides financial assistance to support the undergraduate education of eligible dependents of U.S. Air Force, Air National Guard, and Air Force Reserve active duty, retired, or veteran enlisted members.

Eligibility:

• Unmarried child, adopted child, or stepchild of an active duty, retired, or veteran enlisted member of the U.S. Air Force, Air National Guard, or Air Force Reserve (Officer dependents are not eligible)
• Age 23 or younger
• Minimum 3.5 GPA
• High school senior or full-time undergraduate student
• Enrolled in or accepted to an accredited college or university
• Dependent on parent or guardian for more than half of their financial support
• No membership requirement for the applicant or sponsor

The Alan Robert and Veronica Lenox Cotariu Memorial Scholarship provides a one-time award to support Navy and Marine Corps active duty service members and veterans pursuing their first bachelor’s degree.

Eligibility:

• Active-duty service member or Veteran of the U.S. Navy or U.S. Marine Corps
• Pursuing a first bachelor’s degree
• Completed at least 30 semester hours by the application deadline
• Minimum 2.5 GPA
• Enrolled at an accredited college or university

Award: Up to $20,000 for dependents of fallen service members; up to $5,000 for dependents of veterans with a VA disability rating of 50% or higher

The American Legion Legacy Scholarship is a needs-based scholarship that helps cover remaining educational expenses for eligible dependents of fallen post-9/11 service members and veterans with a VA disability rating of 50% or higher after available federal and state financial aid has been applied.

Eligibility:

• Child, legally adopted child, stepchild, or eligible dependent of a U.S. military service member who died while on active duty on or after September 11, 2001
• OR child, legally adopted child, stepchild, or eligible dependent of a post-9/11 veteran with a Department of Veterans Affairs combined disability rating of 50% or higher resulting from an injury incurred on active duty
• High school senior or high school graduate accepted to or attending an accredited U.S. college or university

The U.S. Army Women’s Foundation Legacy Scholarship supports the educational goals of Army women and their lineal descendants through scholarships for certificate, community college, undergraduate, and graduate programs.

Eligibility:

• Woman currently serving or honorably served in the U.S. Army, Army Reserve, or Army National Guard, or a lineal descendant of a woman who served honorably in those components
• Must meet the academic requirements for the applicable scholarship category:
  • Certificate Program: High school diploma or GED with a minimum 2.5 GPA; enrolled in or accepted to an accredited certificate program
  • Undergraduate: Enrolled in or accepted to an accredited college or university; completed at least 30 credit hours with a minimum 3.0 GPA
  • Graduate: Bachelor’s degree with a minimum 3.0 GPA; enrolled in or accepted to an accredited master’s or doctoral program

Award: $2,000. One recipient also receives the General Albin F. Irzyk Veteran Scholarship valued at $3,000.

The scholarship supports U.S. veterans pursuing higher education, with a particular emphasis on recognizing those who have served with honor and distinction, including combat veterans and those wounded in service.

Eligibility:

• U.S. citizen
• Enrolled at a university accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB)
• U.S. veteran pursuing any major or field of study
• Preference given to veterans who:
  • Hold a Combat Infantryman Badge
  • Sustained a serious combat-related injury
  • Received a Purple Heart
  • Served or continue to serve with honor and distinction
  • Were honorably discharged from military service

Award: Up to $25,000 for overseas study (Boren Scholarships and Boren Fellowships); eligible Boren Fellows may receive an additional $5,000 for domestic summer language study

The Boren Awards fund intensive overseas language study in regions critical to U.S. national security, preparing undergraduate and graduate students for careers in federal public service.

Eligibility:

• U.S. citizen
• High school graduate or GED recipient
• At least 18 years old at the time of application
• Enrolled in or accepted to an accredited U.S. undergraduate or graduate degree program
• Propose an eligible overseas language study program outside of Western Europe, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand
• Study in a country where the applicant is not a citizen
• Commit to intensive language study as a core component of the overseas program
• ROTC cadets, reservists, and National Guard members must be in inactive, non-drilling status during the funded program
• Preference given to applicants pursuing preferred languages, fields of study, longer-duration programs, and careers in U.S. federal public service

The Colonel Kathleen Swacina Scholarship supports students with military or AFCEA connections who are pursuing STEM degrees, recognizing leadership, resilience, and academic achievement.

Eligibility:

• U.S. citizen or permanent resident
• Meet at least one of the following:
  • Currently serving in the U.S. Armed Forces or enrolled in an ROTC program
  • Honorably discharged U.S. Armed Forces veteran
  • Direct descendant of an AFCEA member or an honorably discharged U.S. service member
• Enrolled full-time at an accredited college, university, or community college
• Minimum 2.8 cumulative GPA
• Undergraduate applicants must be sophomores or juniors (community college students must have completed at least one semester)
• Graduate applicants must have completed at least two courses and not be graduating during the current academic year
• Pursuing a STEM-related major aligned with AFCEA’s mission

The Dr. Aurelio M. Caccomo Memorial Scholarship supports U.S. veterans and members of the National Guard and Reserves who demonstrate financial need while pursuing postsecondary education.

Eligibility:

• U.S. Veteran or current member of the National Guard or Reserves
• U.S. citizen
• Demonstrate financial need
• High school diploma or GED
• Enrolled in or accepted to an eligible academic program
• Not in default on a federal student loan
• No state or federal conviction for the sale or possession of illegal drugs
• Agree to allow the scholarship sponsor to publicize the award if selected

The Fleet Reserve Association (FRA) Education Foundation Scholarship Program supports service members, veterans, and their families in pursuing trade, undergraduate, and graduate education.

Eligibility:

• U.S. citizen
• Full-time student enrolled at an accredited U.S. trade school, community college, college, or university
• Affiliated with the U.S. Navy, Marine Corps, or Coast Guard through personal service or that of a spouse, parent, grandparent, or great-grandparent
• Some scholarships are limited to FRA members in good standing and their spouses, children, grandchildren, or great-grandchildren
• Individual scholarships may have additional eligibility requirements

The Freedom Alliance Scholarship Fund provides educational support to children of U.S. military service members who were killed, permanently disabled, or severely impacted through combat missions, training accidents, or qualifying military service.

Eligibility:

• Dependent son or daughter of a U.S. Soldier, Sailor, Airman, Guardsman, or Marine who meets one of the following criteria:
  • Killed in action
  • Rated 100% total and permanently disabled due to a combat mission or qualifying training accident
  • Sustained a major limb amputation due to enemy action
  • Classified as a Prisoner of War (POW) or Missing in Action (MIA)
  • Awarded the Medal of Honor, Navy Cross, Distinguished Service Cross, Air Force Cross, or Coast Guard Cross
  • Experienced a qualifying training accident resulting in death or inability to continue military service due to total and permanent disability
• Qualifying disabled service member parent must have received an Honorable Discharge when applicable
• High school senior, high school graduate, or full-time undergraduate student
• Under age 26 at the time of application

The General Henry H. Arnold Education Grant Program (Hap Arnold Grant) provides need-based educational assistance to eligible Air Force and Space Force dependents and families to support undergraduate education and vocational training.

Eligibility:

• Meet one of the following affiliation requirements:
  • Dependent child of a U.S. Air Force or Space Force member who is active duty, qualifying Reserve or Guard on active duty, retired under eligible conditions, or deceased while on active duty or in retired status
  • Spouse of an active duty U.S. Air Force or Space Force member or qualifying Title 10 AGR/Reserve member
  • Surviving spouse of a U.S. Air Force or Space Force member who died while on active duty or in retired status
• High school graduate enrolled or accepted as a full-time undergraduate student for the upcoming academic year
• Enrolled in or accepted to an accredited college, university, or vocational/trade school approved for federal aid programs
• Minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale
• Meet dependent student requirements, including age, enrollment level, and dependency status criteria

The John S. McCain International Scholarship for Military Families (Gilman-McCain Scholarship) supports undergraduate children and spouses of active or activated U.S. military personnel by providing funding for credit-bearing study abroad and international internship programs that develop global perspectives, leadership skills, and career readiness.

• U.S. citizen or national
• Undergraduate student in good standing at an accredited U.S. two-year or four-year institution
• Child or spouse of active or activated U.S. military personnel, including members of the Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marine Corps, Navy, Space Force, NOAA Commissioned Corps, or USPHS Commissioned Corps
• Receiving or eligible to receive Title IV federal financial aid
• Applying to or accepted into a credit-bearing study abroad or international internship program
• Program must be located in a country or location with a U.S. Department of State Travel Advisory Level 1 or 2

The Maj. Gen. James Ursano Scholarship Program provides need-based educational assistance to children of Soldiers pursuing their first undergraduate degree, helping support their academic goals for up to four years.

Eligibility:

• Dependent child of a Soldier who is:
  • On federal active duty
  • Retired from military service
  • Deceased while on active duty or in retired status
  • A National Guard or Reserve Soldier on Title 10 orders for the full academic year
• Registered as a dependent of the Soldier in the Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System (DEERS)
• Under age 24
• Unmarried for the entire academic year
• Not a member of the National Guard, Reserves, or another military branch
• Enrolled, accepted, or pending acceptance as a full-time student at an accredited postsecondary or vocational institution
• Minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale

The Mrs. Patty Shinseki Spouse Scholarship Program provides need-based financial assistance to eligible spouses and surviving spouses of Soldiers pursuing their first undergraduate degree.

Eligibility:

• Dependent spouse of a Soldier and listed as the spouse in the Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System (DEERS)
• Eligible spouse of:
  • An active duty Soldier
  • A retired Soldier
  • A Soldier who died while on active duty or in retired status
  • A National Guard or Reserve Soldier activated on Title 10 orders
• Pursuing a first undergraduate degree as a full-time or part-time student at an accredited college, university, or vocational institution
• Minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale
• Not serving on active duty, in the Reserve or National Guard, or retired from any military branch

• Not attending a Military Service Academy

The NAVPA Scholarship supports U.S. active-duty military members, veterans, and servicemember/veteran dependents who are enrolled at a NAVPA member school in good standing. Eight scholarships are awarded, with one scholarship available per assigned region.

• U.S. active duty military member, U.S. military veteran, or servicemember/veteran dependent
• Currently enrolled as an active student at a NAVPA member school in good standing
• Minimum 3.0 GPA at the current institution

The NMCRS Education Assistance Program provides need-based financial assistance to help eligible members of the Navy and Marine Corps community pursue career and technical education, associate, bachelor’s, or master’s degrees. Award amounts are based on cost of attendance and FAFSA ÌÇÐÄVLOG Aid Index (SAI).

Eligibility:

• Child (under age 23 by September 30 of the current academic year) of an active duty, retired, or qualifying deceased Sailor or Marine
• Spouse of an active duty, retired, or deceased Sailor or Marine
• Active duty Sailor or Marine with written orders for the enlisted-to-officer program, MECEP, or MECP (loan only)
• Pursuing a career and technical education program, associate degree, bachelor’s degree, or master’s degree

The North American Van Lines Military Logistics/Supply Chain Management/Operational Management Scholarship supports current and former U.S. military members and their dependents pursuing undergraduate degrees in logistics, supply chain management, or a related field.

Eligibility:

• U.S. citizen or permanent resident
• Enrolled or planning to enroll full-time at an accredited U.S. college or university
• Pursuing an undergraduate degree in logistics, supply chain management, or an equivalent field
• Honorably discharged veteran, current active duty service member (including National Guard and Reserves), spouse of a current service member or honorably discharged veteran, or child (under age 21, or under age 23 if a full-time student) of a current service member or honorably discharged veteran
• Eligible to receive tax-free scholarship benefits under IRS rules
• Employees, professional affiliates, agents of North American Van Lines, and their immediate family members are not eligible

The Pat Tillman Scholarship supports U.S. military service members, veterans, and spouses pursuing higher education while demonstrating a commitment to scholarship, humble leadership, service, and impact. The ÌÇÐÄVLOG Veterans of America Patriot Scholarship, sponsored by Raytheon Missiles & Defense, recognizes U.S. Army student veterans who demonstrate a strong commitment to their field of study, leadership, and community engagement.

• U.S. Army veteran with an honorable discharge and in good standing
• Current student veteran, including members of the National Guard or Reserve
• Entering sophomore, junior, or senior year of an undergraduate program, or enrolled in a graduate program
• Attending full-time at an accredited four-year U.S. college or university
• Demonstrates commitment to and passion for their chosen field of study
• Demonstrates leadership and engagement in their community

The RTX SPY-6 Scholarship supports U.S. Navy student veterans pursuing undergraduate or graduate degrees while preparing for civilian careers in engineering, operations, logistics, manufacturing, and related fields. The scholarship recognizes academic commitment, leadership, and community engagement.

• U.S. Navy or Navy Reserve veteran with an honorable discharge and in good standing
• Current student veteran, including members of the National Guard or Reserve
• Full-time student enrolled at an accredited four-year U.S. college or university

The Scholarships for Military Children Program recognizes the contributions of military families by providing scholarships to eligible military dependents pursuing undergraduate education. Scholarships are awarded annually at Defense Commissary Agency commissaries worldwide.

• Unmarried military dependent child under age 23 with a valid Uniformed Services Identification (USID) card
• Parent or sponsor is active duty, Reserve or National Guard, retired, or deceased from the Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, or Space Force
• Enrolled or planning to enroll full-time in a bachelor’s degree program or a community/junior college program designed for transfer to a four-year institution

Gilman International Scholarship Program provides merit-based scholarships to U.S. undergraduate students with high financial need to support credit-bearing study abroad and international internship experiences. The program aims to develop future leaders by expanding access to global education, international networks, and foreign language skills.

• U.S. citizen
• Undergraduate student at an accredited U.S. institution
• Receiving a Federal Pell Grant at the time of application or able to provide proof of Pell Grant eligibility for the study abroad or internship term
• Participating in a credit-bearing study abroad program or career-oriented international internship

The VFW Sport Clips Help A Hero Scholarship provides financial assistance to service members and veterans pursuing post-secondary education, helping reduce the need for student loan debt by covering tuition and fees.

Eligibility:

• U.S. citizen
• Retired, honorably discharged, active duty, National Guard, or Reserve service member
• Completed Basic Training and follow-on training
• Current or former military rank of E-5 or below
• Demonstrates financial need
• Accepted to, participating in, or currently enrolled in a VA-approved program at an accredited post-secondary institution

The Yellow Ribbon Program that was established by the Post 9/11 Veterans Educational Assistance Act of 2008.  Yellow Ribbon allows institutions of higher learning (degree granting) to voluntarily enter into an agreement with the Department of Veterans Affairs to fund tuition and fee expenses that exceed the public in-state tuition and fee amounts payable under the Post-9/11 GI Bill®. 

ÌÇÐÄVLOGs who have been declared by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) as maximum benefit rate (100%) and have entitlement under the Post 9/11 GI Bill® (Chapter 33) benefit are eligible to apply for the Yellow Ribbon Program contribution.  Under the Yellow Ribbon Program agreement, ÌÇÐÄVLOG offers $7500 a year to 10 undergraduate students, $3000 a year for graduate students. This selection is on a first come, first serve basis and students who are classified as out-of-state residency.

The application is for nonresident students who have been accepted to ÌÇÐÄVLOG. Under the Johnny Isakson and David P. Roe, M.D. Veterans Health Care and Benefits Improvement Act of 2020 (Public Law 116-315), any student who is entitled to and receiving Post-9/11 Benefits is entitled to be charged the in-state tuition rate at a public university or college.
